So I've owned this game since 2000. Over various systems I've been able to play. For the last 6 years I've been trying to get this game to work on my windows XP system. I come back to it now and then, but 99% of the time its a complete fail rate. I try all the patches, try all the techniques. Stand on my head, etc. But the odd time, perhaps after a fresh install of windows, it will work, then it wont after awhile.
So to put it in a nutshell, for the last 5 years I couldn't get past the create a profile. You'd punch in your name, choose your picture and press the crash button.
Last week I did a long needed overhaul and Im running a completely different setup on Windows 7. Out of curiosity, I installed the game and just ran it. Low and Behold it worked to my astonishment. No tricks needed. As soon as I upgraded it to 3.5 and programmed my wheel into it, it crashes at the race loading screen. Right at the point where the little track logo flashes on the screen.
So I uninstall, reinstall, do whatever I can, and it just wont work, crashes at the race loading screen. Nothing works. I even purged the whole system of anything related to it for a clean install. Just cant get it to work.
Anyone have any advice? Should I just build an old computer out of spare parts to play it? Should I give up while Im ahead? Seems like all kinds of folks here have not nearly as much trouble as I do.
Specs on my system are:
Windows 7 64-bit
Pentium 4 670 (3.8GHz)
MSI 975X Motherboard
4GB DDR2 800 Ram
ATI Radeon 3870
