serious help with PU on xp

so heres the deal.

I am running
xp pro sp2
amd turion x2
ati x200
biostar g6100
2gb gskills ddr2

I can install, run the game.... but it randomly, then consitantly will end the while in race. Ive tried different graphic settings, all the recommended patches and updates in the guide on this forum. anyone have anything else to try, ive even tried it on a geforce 6100 and a geforce 5200. i am tempted to put windows 98 on a separate partition just to play the game.

I think installing Windows 98 on another partition won't help. I used to play NFS PU on my old computer without any problems:
Windows XP Pro SP2
CPU: Duron 600 MHz (maxed to 700 MHz)
RAM: 256 MB
Video: ATI Rage Fury Pro, 32 MB.

So I presume operating system is not the main issue. Most problems are caused due to game and video card incompatibilities.
