I have just been curious, but how many people who are members, like old cars like the Holden HQ Monaro, Torana, or even the Ford XA GT Falcon, or the Ford GHTO Phase 3. If anyone is interested or has any pics of mates cars who have these or other great classics, feel free to show other countries, and fellow Australian's, that we have some nice Muscle Cars in Australia. :drunk:

Those cars really suck, the only old models i like are the Evos (Not the previous Lancers)

STREETFIRE

$600,000!! Must be butt kicking!!:D

-Sagwa:banana:Yep. It is.

Back in its day, the XY GTHO Phase III was the world's fastest production sedan. Packing a 351-cube bent-eight (5.8 litres for ya tuners), room to spare for four blokes, Holley quad-barrel carbie and that iconic shaker hood scoop, it put 390 hp to your disposal. Bloody awesome considering the day and age it came from.

Alas, I am no Ford fan, but I was wooed by the Phase III for a while. Until I had a look at the 327 Monaro... :-D

Mate, seeing as you live in Columbia, you wouldn't have known how cool the muscle car is outside of South America. It's ruled America since the '60s, then it bulldozed us Aussies in the early '70s. Down Under, the term mainly used is 'street machine'. In America, it's the muscle-car phenomenon.

You can't admit the popularity of muscle cars.

That's why they started to put in a Power Steering pump in their cars. Although, even without the pump, it made the driving of one more enjoyable. If i had enough money, i was gonna buy a Chevrolet Chevelle, for $39,950. but i only had enough to settle for a Nissan 180sx.

STREETFIRE

My dad's LH Torana had a 307 Chev slotted into it. It was a good handler (due to the light weight) and the crazy power-to-weight ratio ensured that it went absolutely NUTS in a straight line - without tuning, it ran a mid-12. What happens when you stick a V8 into a 900kg car? You get a power-to-weight of something like 250kW/tonne.
Today they had the Muscle Car Masters on TV, it was damn good. I got to see plenty of classic muscle cars get the $#!* flogged outta them around the Eastern Creek circuit, it was good. Monaros rubbed shoulders (uncomfortably) with Falcon GTs, while Toranas mixed with Chargers and Camaros ran circles around Mustangs. There was also a Porsche and an [R31?] Skyline. You know what happens when German cars mix it with V8s - they lose!

The new one has taken what was once called "good muscle" into a car that is used everyday, and has no muscle car features at all. Its not that often you see nice muscle cars driving around the streets, which is a shame, but no matter if you don't like care, or have a pashion for cars, when you see one, you always look at it. The new Torana won't have that affect, it just looks like the new VE commodores, which have had to be recalled back for a fuel line recall..... Shows how good holden is going at the moment

Are you on about the Ford GT40? or the FPV GT's?? my opinion is, the gt40, isnt the best car to ever own, or drive, yet the FPV's, they arent bad for a modern day car. And as Street mentioned, " You can't recreate legends "

STREETFIRE
06-22-2008, 01:40 PM
I doubt he would know what an FPV GT is... lol.

Well, actually, compared to Ferraris, Lambos, etc., the Ford GT is a very tame car on the street... not to mention it packs some real (Ferrari-stomping) blown muscle. But I stand by what I said, you can't recreate legends.

winschy
06-23-2008, 11:19 AM
But with a bit of research, they will learn basics on what the FPV GT is.... haha, but yea i agree with what you said about Ferrari's and Lambo's, compared to the Ford GT, but i still strongly agree with you, how you can't recreate legends, none the less, i would love to get my hands on a XU1 Torana ^.^

see, i'd disagree about the ford gt40 and its newer remake, the ford gt. i'd say they recreated a legend. but has the new one placed 1st, 2nd, and 3rd in lemans all in the same year? not yet.

1966. 3 races(can't remember where i read it from so only remember 2 races)

12 hrs lemans
24hrs lemans
3rd race

each race, the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd places were won by gt40's. now that car is a legend. STREET, you think any car today can do that?

car used in 1967:mk4 gt40
car used in 1968: mk1 gt40

thats the laws im on about, can't drive anything over 200kw = (

STREETFIRE

Over 200kW? No way! That means that you can drive an old 150kW VP SS, but you cant drive a new family sedan! Isn't it a power-to-weight rule or something? I'm more familiar with Vic's laws on P-platers, but us lucky SA boys don't get ANY P-plate restrictions whatsoever.

10-14-2008, 02:50 PM
you lucky buggers. well when i move to victoria, and do some modification to it, i'll take it to ya and let ya try its potential, and let me know what else i could do to it. im not too flash with the old carby's, cause 99.9% of cars we get at work, and either common rail, or direct injection....

STREETFIRE

Don't worry about taking it to me mate - it ain't hard to do up a Torana. Unless you're going to bolt on a turbo to the side of the six, don't even bother with trying to get some power out of it - these things barely manage 90kW stock.

For now, replace the snorkel-type air cleaner with a proper cotton filter and get a less restrictive exhaust, that will give it some more growl and some more go. Okay, maybe only 10hp more, but it's a start. Then when you get off your P's you can either bolt on a turbo or bite the bullet and go V8 power.'

By the way, we're not really lucky. We've still got restrictive rego laws - if you want to go all-out on modifications, move to WA, or even better, NZ. They have nitrous, blowers, turbos and all legal!

winschy
10-15-2008, 01:31 PM
I thought blowers were legal in Vic =s

STREETFIRE
10-16-2008, 10:49 AM
Not on P's they aren't. Plus there's the inherent power restrictions too to deal with, so you can't exploit the no-blow laws by building a high-powered n/a car.

10-17-2008, 04:27 PM
Yea..... point taken.... can't wait till im off my p's

well, today our presidential candidates are being voted on, so its always possible that we could see some new driving laws nationwide, but then again they never say anything about the small matters.

well since obama looks towards alternative energies we could have one of those emission limits like they do in large metropolitan areas, but like i said who knows. one thing is for certain: i will not be driving a hybrid, no i'd rather the sun burn up the earth before i betray what automotives mean:D:D:D
