Porsche Unleashed on Vista

Hi, After a few years away I had an urge to play NFSPU on my new Vista machine.
Having read your guide and most of the posts I have it running (sort of). My problem is saving games.
If I create a profile and then have a race when I exit back to the game menu I get 'Error loading profile'. I cannot then use that profile again. I have to restart the game and create a new profile and re-do all the options and so it goes round and round.
Any magic spells or incantations to break me out of my loop?

make sure that the savedata folder is not set to read only for starters many ppl run the game on vista so i would think we can solve your issue

Hi, You are correct, the Savedata folder is flagged as read-only. But this attribute seems to be sticky. I clear the read-only box in folder properties and apply but it just gets reset. Is there a Registry hack? It is weird, the folder properties says read-only applies only to files inside the folder but no file in the folder is read-only! I am about to spit my dummy out.

make a persona which will generate a savedata file then close the game without any races , then go check to make sure it is not a read only if it is make it not read only then reboot pc and give it a look see or if you need a persona i can make you one and email it with my garage per renamed for you with nearly every car and all the correct legal updated parts no hacks in otherwords . Name can be 8 character in max length so think of a name you want and pm me with email information or go to www.iplounge.net (http://www.iplounge.net) and pm me there i admin. that forum, as well as i run the iplounge servers themself. Since trying to change the folder attributes last night things have got worse. I cannot now create a persona. The read-only attribute will not go away. Now here is the strange part. I am allowed to MOVE the savedata folder out of the main NFSPU folder and create a new one in there. But the new one automatically becomes read-only and the old moved one will not allow the read-only attribute to be removed. AND despite both SaveData folders being read-only I can move the original folder back to NFSPU folder and overwrite the one I created there.

there is a user control when using vista that one needs to close to run nfs pu so that the savedata will work correctly
