i wish there was a way to download songs at the store, i mean every song ever made. the internet has viruses, which is why i dont like downloading songs. but some songs, like basshunter or the fall of troy or older CDs that arent sold in stores anymore, you just cant find them anywhere else. i think there should be a large database or something, and you could buy your songs there, at the store, safe from viruses and fraud. but i guess you can't put every song on a computer in every music store in america, let alone the entire world.

but wouldn't it be great to have something of the sorts?:D

Correct me if I am wrong, but MP3, JPEG and some other compressed-multimedia files can not have viruses :-k

There was one flaw in Microsoft's JPEG rendering which allowed certain JPEG code to compromise system, but basically multimedia files can only contain data that can cause some disfunction of a player/viewer associated to it.

I do not say that downloading MP3 files is not dangerous - as mentioned, some compromised data can be written to it, but there is no possibility to attach an executable file or DLL library, which are used by most viruses.

On the other hand, some malicious stuff can be on a website which publishes songs (usually illegally). Browser can be infected with malicious Java Applets, ActiveX controls or some nasty JavaScript can load you a program. So it's always better to pay some bucks to a well-known e-shop which uses secure connection and has a valid certificate (you can see lock or blue/green icon at address field near "https://").

In Lithuania we have a music shop "Bomba" ("bomb" in english) which has old CDs. Even if they don't, you can order. Some months ago I bought "The writings on the walls" by Destiny's Child which was published in 1999. Also one our mobile operator runs an online music store (http://muzika.sp.lt) which has quite cheap songs.

Do you have any particular songs you need? I could check.

thanks for thinking of that. but i do know that the audio files cant contain harmful viruses and such. but its the sites, and it would just be nice to not have a problem with unwanted programs.

I know Kaspersky Internet Security (not sure about Antivirus-only) and ESET Smart Security has web site monitor - they scan every page the browser opens if enabled.

Also it is very good idea to have a program that can alert if some program tries to monitor mouse moves or keystrokes and block programs that tries to load itself into a generic operating system's processes. Here ZoneAlarm Pro can help :)
