Thread: Running NFS Porsche Unleashed on Windows XP

  1. Running NFS Porsche Unleashed on Windows XP

There were many discussions about running Need for Speed Porsche Unleashed (2000) on Windows XP systems. Finally, I made the game run on my box so now posting this detailed tutorial

IMPORTANT! You can find [Link removed. Only Registered and Activated Users Can See Links.] in [Link removed. Only Registered and Activated Users Can See Links.]. Either use it OR this guide. If you got ATI chipset in your video system, first try to use [Link removed. Only Registered and Activated Users Can See Links.] + [Link removed. Only Registered and Activated Users Can See Links.] and if they do not help, try the following guide. DO NOT USE BOTH (Enhanced version + this guide).

    Step 1
    Install the game.

    Step 2
Download and install [Link removed. Only Registered and Activated Users Can See Links.].

    Step 3
Download Win2K-XP_PU_Patch.rar (attached to this post), extract. Then run PatchInstall.bat. In case you want to uninstall it, use PatchUninstall.bat or find Wac's Porsche Unleashed Patch in Add or Remove Programs and remove it.

Now you can try to run Need for Speed Porsche Unleashed. My computer has Nvidia graphics card and when I loaded the game fonts looked verry choppy.

Let's move to the next step and fix that.

    Step 4
Click Nvidia icon in your taskbar and choose Performance & quality settings > Antialiasing settings > 4x

Run the game and it will look like this:

Finished. Enjoy Need for Speed Porsche Unleashed on your Windows XP system!

  2. Great stuff man. I finally got it to work on my computer. One problem though: it runs very slowly. The 3 sec. count from before the race lasts about 7-8 sec. I got an AMD 1.6 GHz, 512 RAM and an ATI Radeon 9600. Any ideas?

    Thanks

  3. Do you experience such slow downs during the race? In which track does this slow down occur? Or in all of them?

Please tell about your computer hardware. Maybe then we'll find a solution.

With ATI chipsets you should better use [Link removed. Only Registered and Activated Users Can See Links.] instead of this guide.

I remember I had ATI Rage Fury Pro video card. NFS 5 ran smoothly with that ATI card when I installed Enhanced version. Most problems occured when I changed my video system to Nvidia's.

I read that most problems with compatibility occurs when too powerfull computers are used (comparing to the ones used in year 2000). So first try using [Link removed. Only Registered and Activated Users Can See Links.] and [Link removed. Only Registered and Activated Users Can See Links.]. Then if it doesn't solve your problem, try using this patch (first post in this thread).

  9. I tried the Enhanced Version too and still runs slow. I see no difference between this guide and the Enhanced Version in the "speed" of the game. I think I'll install Win98 on another hard-drive and play NFS Porsche . If you have any other ideas I'll be forever greatefull.

  10. Maybe that's the best way to avoid compatibility problems
